Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian actress who has achieved international recognition for her starring roles in several Hollywood and Chinese films, most notably as the Bond girl Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and as Aung San Suu Kyi in The Lady (2011).
Born in Ipoh, Malaysia, to an ethnic Chinese family of Hokkien descent, Yeoh was encouraged by her parents to pursue a career in ballet. However, an injury at age 14 ended her ballet dreams and she subsequently returned to Malaysia where she began acting and modeling. She soon caught the attention of film director Yang Yewan who cast her in his film Supercop 2 (1993), which became a box office hit throughout Asia.

Michelle Yeoh Early Life
In 1983, at the age of 20, Yeoh won the Miss Malaysia World contest and went on to represent her country in the Miss World pageant in London. Later that year she traveled to Australia where she took first place in the Miss International Tourism Quest pageant.
From there, a television commercial featuring Jackie Chan caught her attention and led her to D&B Films; a Hong Kong film production company just getting started. Yeoh started her film career acting in action and martial arts films, where she did most of her own stunts. Already with her third credit, Yes, Madam (1985), she was given a main role.
After Yeoh divorced Poon, she made a comeback to acting with Police Story 3: Super Cop (1992), and followed up with appearances in The Heroic Trio (1993) as well as the Yuen Woo-ping films Tai Chi Master(1993) and Wing Chun (1994).
